The NHAAB2RN (‘R’ for ‘Reduced calorie’?) is avdertised to have the same low-self-discharge characteristic (“Stays 85% charged after 1 year”) as the regular SONY pre-charged battery. Both are supposed to have a lifespan of 1000 cycles. But on this package it claims “Lasts 1.5x Longer than Alkaline”, whereas the regular package claims “3x Longer”. I have tested a set of these ‘SONY Lite’ AA cells, using my old La Crosse BC-900 charger/analyzer. Right out of the package, the average remaining charge is 671mAh, or 67% of rated capacity. After two more Recharge/Discharge cycles, the average capacity improved to 990mAh. This is rather disappointing, because I expect SONY to at least give us slightly higher than the rated ’1000mAh’. Note that the regular (full-capacity) SONY Pre-Charged AA cells measured close to 2100mAh under the same test. There is, however, one important advantage for ‘SONY Lite’ cells: they are _slightly_ slimmer than regular SONY pre-charged cells. That means they can be used in appliances with extremely tight battery compartments, such as the Microsoft Wireless Desktop 1000 keyboard and Rayovac Sportsman Xtreme 1W LED Flashlight. Also they are about 1/3 lighter then regular rechargeable cells. (18g vs. 27g) Personally, I think paying 75% of the price for 50% of the capacity is a poor deal. But if you are looking for rechargeable cells that are slimmer, lighter, and don’t mind recharging them more frequently, then those SONY Lite cells are exactly what you need. 1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. |
